A little while back, I received an email about an old Winston rod bag and a hopeful update. I immediately felt a surge of excitement, followed closely by panic. What if the original bag was so old manipulating it would damage it beyond repair? What if I ripped the label, this piece of history? There's no fixing a satin label. I agreed to take on the project, hoping that everything was well preserved and malleable.Read More
A few weeks ago Jacob finished out a 7’ 2” 3 weight C. Barclay fiberglass blank. I’ve been secretly hoping that it won’t sell, because this is a truly perfect small creek rod! It’s got me dreaming of high mountains and wild cutthroat and all the adventures. Funny how an inanimate object can invoke such magical dreams.

This morning I walked down into my basement with a load of wash in my hands. I carefully rounded the corner, noticing the bamboo blank currently in the saddle waiting to be wrapped. It was a little too close for comfort. I stepped over a box filled with thread and in-between the fly tying desk and epoxy/varnish/finishing desk, taking note that there isn’t currently a rod drying. Dust, ya know.
I’m not normally a graceful or agile person, more clumsy and hurried, but in the basement, there’s a need for considered steps. It’s in the best interest of our relationship.Read More

Years ago, for Christmas, I gifted Jacob his first bamboo rod. Ever since then it's been a steady stream of learning to build and gathering all he could find. He completely immersed himself in the art of bamboo.
Since then, I've learned more about 'boo' than I ever thought I would, but it was still his. I've cast a bamboo rod from time to time, gave them the 'wiggle test', and admired from afar. I've got my glass rods, they catch fish just fine. I figured bamboo would be a world in which I was always an outsider and even a 'boo widow.'Read More
Today, while standing in the middle of the grocery store, I started to dance a little jig and let out a "whoop" at the top of my lungs! Why all this craziness in public? Because San Juan National Forest is set to reopen tomorrow!
For the few weeks, Jacob and I have been trying to decide how to proceed with our Colorado trip. Should we move it back? How much? Should we even go at all? Maybe wait until August or Septemeber? Just last night we firmly decided that it would probably be best to push it back just a bit a couple of weeks.
