The Next Valley Over

April 9, 2018 Jillian Rash
Jillian Schuller Photography - Fly Fishing

"The majority of anglers who travel to fish are by nature either pastoralists or nomads."
-Charles Gaines

Meaning that while we're all there for the same reason, you've got those that are happy to stay in the "designated" waters and those that are always looking towards The Next Valley Over.

Plastic Bottles and Public Lands

February 12, 2018 Jillian Rash

There are two things about me that everyone knows. One, I've ALWAYS got a water bottle with me; a big 40 oz HydroFlask, covered in stickers from notable fishing and outdoors brands. Also, I will turn my nose up at you if you're drinking out of a plastic, disposable bottle.

Two, I'm outspoken and fiercely passionate about public lands.

Messengers - A Film

February 5, 2018 Jillian Rash
On December 4, 2017, President Trump declared a drastic reduction of Utah’s Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante National Monuments. This is the largest elimination of protected land in American history…and the President had made his decision without ever stepping foot there. On January 13, 2018, we gathered a group of friends and ran 250 miles across both monuments in a single weekend to see for ourselves what would be left protected. Now more than ever we believe in celebrating the things that unite us. Our run was about finding commonalities in the midst of a divisive political landscape and standing in coalescence— tribal members, athletes, dirtbags — for our public lands. We hope our footsteps carry a message: wild places are worth protecting, and sometimes the first step in doing that is to take another. I'm not an ultra runner, nor am I even a trail runner. I more or less do this weird combination of walking/running/ skipping/crawling when I'm on a trail. But, my trail time is important to me, maybe just as much so as fishing. It may be because it's my alone time in the woods or maybe it's because for the five or ten minutes that I do run, I kind of feel like superwoman.

What I am is very passionate about Public Lands.

From tiny brook trout in the Blue Ridge to giant lake trout to more cutthroat than we could stand; adventures around the corner to road trips across the country; the ability to create custom rods and a whole rod bag business.

Those Moments

December 20, 2017 Jillian Rash
Jillian Schuller Photography - Fly Fishing

Fly fishing is not an industry in which you'll get rich or famous (not counting "internet famous"), but a thing from which you just can't back away.  It consumes you, at every possible level, even during the most hectic of guiding season, when you feel like you're on the verge of burning out, you don't.
