Colorado, Thanks For Having Us

April 23, 2019 Jillian Rash

I had great plans to capture every moment of our move across the country, from wonderful images of the Mississippi to the fields of Texas to all the wonder of New Mexico. But, what is it they say about the ‘best laid plans?’

I’ve woken up to the warm Colorado sunshine for the past few mornings. I’ve wandered among the cedars and shared a beer with friends not seen in months, but as of yet, no cutthroat. Ah, well, those days will come.

It’s a bizarre thing to see your whole world reduced to a few measly boxes and even more stunning to see your whole business fit in the back of a little Subaru. It’s a reminder that things are just that, things. The important stuff will make it and the rest will move on to someone else. That being said, I wouldn’t trade any of those things for this view I get to see every day.

How To Take A Walk In The Woods

February 14, 2019 Jillian Rash

Get a good nights sleep. Dream of 18-inch rainbows and uncharted waters, hatches, and sunshine.

Wake up early to a good pot of coffee. Drink it all and pack more for the ride, it's going to be a long one.

Meet up with a fellow angler, meet up with the second down the road.

Drive around for a while, check out a pull-off or two, decide on a spot you noticed a while back.

Gear up. Full regalia. Waders, boots, wading staff, pack, camera, water bottle, snacks, beer, everything.

Don't forget your 8' 6" fly rod, forget the 7', the longer rod will be much better.

19 for 2019

Jacob Rash Custom Fly Rods

If you've been a follower of our blog for a while or keep up with us on social media, you've probably noticed two things. One, that we're packing up and moving to Colorado and two, that there hasn't been much new content lately. Unfortunately, the second is a direct result of the first. There hasn't been much time for adventures with purging, cleaning, painting, etc...

Last week we started tearing down Jacob's rod building shop, boxing up chemicals, dividing up parts, and carefully storing away all the multicolored threads. It's a little sad seeing it all diluted down and packed away, but I know that soon it will all be put back together, in a space more worthy.

Heading West

December 14, 2018 Jillian Rash
Jacob Rash & Jillian Schuller

There's a thick fog hanging on the ground this morning. The ground is still covered in snow and a light, cold rain is falling. Winter is here. And, so are my seasonal blues. I spend hours tucked under a blanket, caught up in the words of Edward Abbey, living in my own Desert Solitare.

I dream about blue skies, big mountains, cutthroat, and the warmth of the sun in the high desert.

Days That Make Us Thankful

November 26, 2018 Jillian Rash

t seems that Jacob and I have started our own, very unique tradition. For a few years now, we've bypassed the conventional expectations of how we're 'supposed' to celebrate holidays. Instead of gathering with those we hardly speak to, consuming enormous amounts of food and pretending to show interest in a game we care nothing about, we head to the river. Many people scoff at us, while others feel sorry for us (assuming we have nowhere to go). I expect to some folks it is rather strange, but to us, it's pretty perfect.
