Colorado, Thanks For Having Us

April 23, 2019 Jillian Rash

I had great plans to capture every moment of our move across the country, from wonderful images of the Mississippi to the fields of Texas to all the wonder of New Mexico. But, what is it they say about the ‘best laid plans?’

I’ve woken up to the warm Colorado sunshine for the past few mornings. I’ve wandered among the cedars and shared a beer with friends not seen in months, but as of yet, no cutthroat. Ah, well, those days will come.

It’s a bizarre thing to see your whole world reduced to a few measly boxes and even more stunning to see your whole business fit in the back of a little Subaru. It’s a reminder that things are just that, things. The important stuff will make it and the rest will move on to someone else. That being said, I wouldn’t trade any of those things for this view I get to see every day.

How To Take A Walk In The Woods

February 14, 2019 Jillian Rash
Jillian Schuller Photography

Get a good nights sleep. Dream of 18-inch rainbows and uncharted waters, hatches, and sunshine.

Wake up early to a good pot of coffee. Drink it all and pack more for the ride, it's going to be a long one.

Meet up with a fellow angler, meet up with the second down the road.

Drive around for a while, check out a pull-off or two, decide on a spot you noticed a while back.

Gear up. Full regalia. Waders, boots, wading staff, pack, camera, water bottle, snacks, beer, everything.

Don't forget your 8' 6" fly rod, forget the 7', the longer rod will be much better.

My Step

Jillian Schuller Photography - Fly Fishing

There’s a set of steps on our favorite river, right at one of our favorite holes. I’ve found that the second step is wonderfully perfect for eating a nut and banana sandwich, sipping on a cold beer or just enjoying the views. These steps are a spot I’ve used to warm up. The spot I was bitten by a brown recluse spider and the place where I watched Jacob catch one of the biggest browns I’ve ever seen. This is where I’ve met strangers traveling by on the trail, where fellow fishermen have plopped down next to me for a quick chat.

Casting Carolinas 2015 Tournament

I always have a hard time trying to decide which organization to donate to on Giving Tuesday. Because let’s face it, there are so many amazing causes within the fly fishing community. This year I’ve decided to compile a list of a few of my favorites to share.

In honor of Giving Tuesday I’ve decided to donate 15% of all rod bag sales through Christmas to one of the organizations listed below. Please help me choose by leaving a comment on this blog post or any of my social media platforms.

Farewell To Summer

October 12, 2018 Jillian Rash

The changing of seasons is always difficult for me. Mostly because I'm impatient and I want it to happen right away. I expect flowers to bloom the first day of spring and 40 degree nights the beginning of autumn. Apparently, mother nature still hasn't received my memo.

Here in Western North Carolina, we've had a particularly long, wet, warm year. Jacob and I recently joked that we saw a groundhog and he told us there would be six more weeks of summer.
