19 for 2019

Jacob Rash Custom Fly Rods

If you've been a follower of our blog for a while or keep up with us on social media, you've probably noticed two things. One, that we're packing up and moving to Colorado and two, that there hasn't been much new content lately. Unfortunately, the second is a direct result of the first. There hasn't been much time for adventures with purging, cleaning, painting, etc...

Last week we started tearing down Jacob's rod building shop, boxing up chemicals, dividing up parts, and carefully storing away all the multicolored threads. It's a little sad seeing it all diluted down and packed away, but I know that soon it will all be put back together, in a space more worthy.

Cyber Monday Deals

Jacob Rash Custom Fly Rods

A few weeks ago Jacob finished out a 7’ 2” 3 weight C. Barclay fiberglass blank. I’ve been secretly hoping that it won’t sell, because this is a truly perfect small creek rod! It’s got me dreaming of high mountains and wild cutthroat and all the adventures. Funny how an inanimate object can invoke such magical dreams.

P.S All Rod Bags are 20% off through Monday! Just enter code “SHOPSMALL” at checkout, or shoot me an email with more questions or to place your order.

Fitting Together

This morning I walked down into my basement with a load of wash in my hands. I carefully rounded the corner, noticing the bamboo blank currently in the saddle waiting to be wrapped. It was a little too close for comfort. I stepped over a box filled with thread and in-between the fly tying desk and epoxy/varnish/finishing desk, taking note that there isn’t currently a rod drying. Dust, ya know.

I’m not normally a graceful or agile person, more clumsy and hurried, but in the basement, there’s a need for considered steps. It’s in the best interest of our relationship.

From Cutthroat to Rod Bags

Lightweight Rod Bag

After a few days on the road, and a quick stop in Kentucky for some bourbon to help soothe our transition back to the East Coast, we've made it back to North Carolina. And, back to work.

Jacob has been busy with trips and I've put in some long hours with a sewing machine, we're both thankful for work after our month of playing in the mountains with cutthroat.

Way On Up

Jillian Schuller Photography - Fly Fishing

I've always considered myself to be a mountain person. I live, play, survive in the mountains, define myself by it. I've never been so wrong about anything. At best, I'm a hill person.

Last week, Jacob and I made plans to meet up with a fellow bamboo rod maker and one of my first rod bag customers, Dave Sornborger - Animas Rods.  After all, we're are in his backyard, who better to show us around. "You're good with 2.5 miles, right?" Jacob asked me. I didn't give it a second thought. Two miles, seriously, that's a quick hike for me. It wasn't until the night before that I was informed that over the course of two-miles we'd be gaining 2,000 ft in elevation and starting off at 10,000 ft.
